About This Part

A modern diesel engine is a complex, electronics-filled mechanism that operates under extremely high temperatures and pressures. The Common Rail fuel injection system alone delivers fuel into the cylinders at pressures of up to 2000 bar. Diesel engines also face strict environmental regulations, and consumers expect them to offer power and smoothness comparable to gasoline engines, making their development challenging. Moreover, making these engines competitive and reliable is even harder.

Nevertheless, some automakers have mastered the craft of diesel engine manufacturing, with some achieving significant success. One standout is General Motors’ Circle L engine line, used in Opel vehicles. Despite being fuel-efficient and cost-effective, these 1.7-liter four-cylinder engines are surprisingly reliable with minimal inherent flaws. Most of their issues stem from typical diesel engine characteristics: increased vibration, heat stress, and sensitivity to fuel, lubricants, and coolant quality.

For these reasons, Circle L components made of aluminum, plastic, or regular steel can quickly lose their original shape and properties, leading to leaks and condensation that negatively impact engine performance. The more affected areas there are, the higher the chance of complete engine failure. A critical component in these engines is the thermostat outlet hose, which directs coolant into the engine’s main cooling circuit. Unfortunately, due to harsh working conditions, this hose has a short lifespan and eventually needs replacement.

To ensure the replacement is the last one needed, we recommend replacing the original part 98079555 with this stainless steel hose. Unlike the original, this listed hose can withstand vibrations, high temperatures, and coolant pressures. The stainless steel component doesn’t break, rust, or produce residue over time, which could harm the cooling system.

Although it may seem unbelievable, we know how to make Circle L engines even more reliable.
